Knightsfield School, Welwyn Garden City

Situated within Welwyn Garden City’s Green Belt, is Knightsfield School which is a specialist sensory academy. Their existing school hall was insufficient in size due to the increase in pupils and did not allow the school community to gather as a whole for celebrations of achievements.

A new multi-use hall providing classrooms, sports facilities and changing rooms was proposed. The educational and community benefits provided by the scheme represented a significant benefit and the Council agreed that this amounted to a very special circumstance, outweighing the harm to the Green Belt.
